Welcome to Our Space

Our Space is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1988. Our mission is to empower adults who have experienced mental illness to attain a more meaningful life by offering quality programs and services, which promote recovery, rehabilitation, and renewal. Our Space is based on a membership and peer support concept, which creates a circle of wellness that enhances connectivity, self-determination, and reintegration. Programs offered include occupational therapy, prevocational, educational, recreational, and psycho-socialization services.

Our Space was founded by family members, clergy, mental health providers and consumers of mental health services. These Founders formed the Committee for a Milwaukee Drop-In Center. All Saints Cathedral generously donated space and on October 8, 1988, Our Space began serving 35 consumers.

Member Outreach, the first prevocational program, was initiated and services were expanded to five days per week

The agency was awarded NAMI's Certificate of Appreciation.

Our Space initiated its second prevocational program, the Blue Dove Gift Shop, located at the Milwaukee County Mental Health Complex.

Funding for the Wellness Program was received from the Greater Milwaukee Foundation and Faye McBeath Foundation to support future health related programming.

Agency hours were expanded and board members received NAMI's Anti-Stigma and Professional Services Award.

Our Space and Social Rehabilitation and Residential Resources initiated a Peer Mentor Supported Apartment Program.

Our Space began offering a 12-week Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP) Group to assist members in developing comprehensive pre- and post-crisis plans.

United House, a new supportive apartment facility, opened in August. United House is a collaborative effort between Our Space, the United Christian Church, and Cardinal Capital Management. United House serves 24 adults with severe and persistent mental illness.
