The Peer Mentors are trained to provide direct peer support services onsite at the apartment complex to the consumers who are residing there, including assistance with shopping, cooking and other activities & programming that promote independence.
Once the residents successfully complete one year of living in the supported apartment, they can take over the lease and remain living there, or if they choose, they can move elsewhere to live independently. Meanwhile, the Peer Mentors will have learned the necessary skills to work in various residential facilities and will be assisted in obtaining employment, so that new Peer Mentors can be trained.
Our Space, Inc. and Social Rehabilitation and Residential Resources (SRRR) work collaboratively to provide both supported apartment living for consumers transitioning into independence and Peer Mentor employment opportunities for consumers who have maintained stable, independent, health living.
The Supported Apartment Program is a new endeavor that began on September 1, 2004.
